It's been a fun couple of weeks. First of all, I want to thank everyone who played the Crypt Shyfter games- I wasn't expecting the response they got AT ALL. Two frontpaged, two daily features, and one 3rd place. Thousands of views on each and tons of extremely awesome comments and feedback. I know I've said it before, but I gotta say it again- you guys are seriously the best players a virtual Dungeon Master could ask for.
I wish there was some way I could supply you with a constant stream of neverending adventures, but that's just not realistic. These games take time to make- even short games like Mon Magma take two weeks to make, and that takes, what, ten minutes to play through?
I've learned a lot from making these games and the feedback you guys gave was extremely helpful. Overwhelmingly it was requested that I make a longer game.
So here we go:
If you don't hear much from me, it's because I am working on that longer game. There will be an improved combat and stats system, almost no instant-death-based-on-a-bad-roll scenarios, and lots and lots of content.
This new game will simply be called Crypt Shyfter.
It will be an open world game with dozens of towns, cities, realms, and even planets and planes of existence. There will be 100 quests upon release, which will be tracked automatically in your game, along with a ton of unique NPCs, magic items, cheats, and hidden secrets.
This game will take a very long time to make, but I am so excited to be working on it. I loved making the first 3 games, but this one will blow them all out of the water. I'm taking everything I love about D&D, tabletop RPGs, and fantasy and putting it all in this game.
This thing's gunna be a big ol' labor of love.
Once I finish the main campaign and the 100 quests, and the game has been released, I may expand upon it- adding more content is pretty simple since it's all text-based. I don't need to spend thousands of dollars rendering new beautiful vistas and monsters and paying artists to make these things move or record dialogue or any of that stuff.
If I want to make an area across the galaxy where you fight space vampires on a warp ship all I need to do is write it and BAM- you'll see it.
Of course when I finish this thing I may never want to touch another text game ever again, but that's a bridge we'll cross when we get to it.
Until then, I'll be hard at work on this thing. Don't wander too far ;)
